The new high-speed line is about to enter service. Once open, the journey between the two end cities falls from around five hours to one hour forty.

Three small cities along the route, previously awkward to reach, are the most direct beneficiaries. Travel platforms report accommodation bookings in all three rising noticeably since the opening was announced.

Local tourism authorities caution that transport from the stations to the main sights is still being scaled up. For the first month they advise driving or booking a car in advance, to avoid waiting outside the station at peak times.

Travel operators note that the visitor increase from better transport usually concentrates in the first two months, then settles at a steadier level.
